I use a lot of voice-over industry jargon on my site and in recording sessions. So to help you understand me and what I mean, I created this glossary of common terms.
AA.I. rider - an legal agreement that assures that vocal recordings from a project will not be used to create an A.I. synthetic voice without permission or compensation.
Alt / alt line / alternative line – these lines are provided as optional lines in a script that may or may not be used in the final recording. If the client is undecided, it is best to have me record all the alt lines that are being considered. In the script, they typically appear just below the line they may replace. That way I can match my tone and pacing of the alt lines to the previous text. Announcery - a voiceover style typical of a sports broadcaster or traditional radio personality. This more sing-songy style has fallen out of fashion for use in commercials and corporate video, and has been replaced by the less stylized "conversational read". Audio interface - a piece of audio equipment needed to convert analog sound waves captured by the microphone into a digital format that a computer can read. I use an Audient iD4 interface because it converts the signal without losing significant sound quality. Audition - a brief voiceover recording that demonstrates a voice actor’s performance choices on a portion of a script. It can be used as a proof of concept for a client. B |
